Social media isn’t for everyone
Social media is the biggest thing now, every one wants to use social media on his/her online marketing activities. But, here is the important question. Will social media work for you & your business? or will it only be a loss of time & money?
To answer this question, we must first talk about some general marketing.
Define your targeted audience
Marketing 101 lesson is defining your audience. Are you offering a b2b services/products (i.e. you are a software company, a marketing company, a factory) (business to business)? If so, your targeted audience may be a 35 years marketing manager of a company, a 45 years CEO of a company, a 50 years GM of a company. Are you offering a b2c services? (i.e. you are a store, a tours company) If so your targeted audience may be an 19 years university student, a 28 engineer, a 21 year male, a 22 year female.
Reach your targeted audience
Now, after you have defined your targeted audience, it is time to reach them. Check this statistics very carefully
Because we like data, and our decisions are data driven not opinions or random thoughts. Let’s see these statistics and analyze them.
Facebook users by age
18-24 years
24%
24-34 years
29%
34-44 years
14%
What these data mean?
If you are a b2b type of business, your targeted audience don’t use social media that much, and targeting them may not be an easy task. On the other hand, if you are a b2c type of business, your targeted audience do use social media, and you can target them easily.
Facebook ads. platform
It is very easy to target your audience on Facebook, but only if you are a b2c business. You can target for example 18-25 years old, male, in Egypt. But if you are a b2b business, how can you target general managers?
Yes you can target 30-60 years old Facebook users, but how much of them are general managers?
Facebook has tried too much to target people based on their jobs, Interest. but the problem is that, all people put their age and gender, but not all people put their job positions, and interests.
You will waste a lot of your money in people that aren’t in your target audience.
PegsWeb as an example. If we wanted to target people who own companies, because they might be interested in having a website for their companies. How can we target company owners, or decision makers?
The bottom line. Don’t use the social media only because everyone one is using it. It must be analyzed first if it will be worth your efforts (time, and money).
